Want to attract and hold an audience for your YouTube videos, TikToks, or Facebook reels? Learn the secrets of visual storytelling in a series of short, fun, and easy video assignments! Amateur videographers and more advanced visual artists will benefit from practicing their story-telling skills in this nonverbal video production course intended for online video creators. We will play with shot composition (background, mid-ground, foreground along the Z-axis), moving camera, subjective camera, split screen, montage, and more. Story-telling aspects using video editing techniques will be covered as well. You will receive constructive feedback (and may even win a miniature “Oscar” statuette!) that will motivate you to take your videos to the next level. Students will use their own equipment (which can be any type of camera, even a cell phone camera).

Required Material: A high-speed, high-capacity 250 GB (or more) external hard drive (such as UnionSine 250GB 2.5” Ultra Slim Portable External Hard Drive HDD-USB 3.0 for PC, Mac) (Please label and name all hardware and media). Headset or earbuds (to edit video individually on computers during class, and to watch tutorials prepared for this course). A digital video camera, still camera that has video capabilities, or a smart phone with video capabilities.
Students must bring their own laptop with video editing software already installed: Shotcut (a free video editor that can be downloaded from their website: /www.shotcut. org/) or iMovie (which comes with most Mac computers) will be enough for the needs of this course. If students wish to purchase and use Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro, either of those would work as well but are not required.
