A British light infantry company was the lead unit of a mission to secure bridges over the Caen Canal and the River Orne in Normandy just after midnight on June 6, 1944: D-Day. The Allies needed to take – and hold – these two bridges to prevent a failure of the D-Day landings. Gliders were used to deliver the unit to its objective. This presentation will be about that mission, including why the bridges are now called Pegasus and Horsa.
