This information provides a general overview of the OSHA topic related to Blood Borne Pathogens. Bloodborne pathogens are dangerous microorganisms found in human blood and certain other bodily fluids that can cause life-threatening diseases when transmitted through contact with contaminated bodily fluids.

The Federal OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard [29 CFR 1910.1030], requires employers to assess each job description and provide annual training and provide Hepatitis B vaccinations to employees with a risk of potential exposure to human blood or other bodily fluids.

Since exposure to bloodborne pathogens carries a lifelong risk of illness or death, it is important that employers keep the employee’s risk as low as possible. OSHA’S bloodborne pathogens standard is designed to protect and minimize the employee’s exposure who work in occupations where they are at risk or have a potential of exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.

In this course, we will address the OSHA Blood Borne Standard, the risks, how to minimize exposure, and what to do if exposed. This course is designed to help equip you with the knowledge you need to keep yourself and others your work with safe.
