"The ancient practice of meditation changes people's lives. It works because regular practice literally strengthens parts of the brain that reduce susceptibility to reactivity and anxiety. It strengthens concentration and equanimity. Finally, we will discuss how meditation moderates the effects of negative emotionality on our inborn personality traits, traits that can be driven to extremes when we encounter stressful situations. It is not the purpose of this class to provide instruction in how to meditate. Instead, we will study the results of meditation, whether in the form of focusing on the breath, walking meditation, prayer, blending with nature, etc."
