The human body is a remarkable machine, BUT, sometimes “stuff happens” which can have interesting effects on human affairs. These sorts of things have been going on for as long as there have been people, but this presentation will be limited to the period of written history. We will discuss examples through the ages showing how human diseases have affected people who have made history. We will cover not only the effects of communicable diseases, but also diseases resulting from the failure of our internal “machinery”.
