Public libraries have had an important place in US history and culture since the colonial era. Yet the true Golden Age of libraries was the late 19^th and early 20^th centuries when Carnegie libraries were built across the nation. Pocatello was no exception, yet the story of its building took an unexpected turn. We will look at our library’s place in city, state, national, and global history, both in its development and its architecture.
