No single religion is in the news today more than Islam, yet no religion is less understood in the context of its growing global significance. This two-hour course will review the basic history of Islam and its founding, its basic tenets, its two main sects (Sunnism, Shi’ism), spiritual movements such as Sufism, and  a brief overview of the history of Islamic fundamentalism.
