Have you ever had a desire to craft your own traditional cedar wood arrows? Now is your chance....
With over 20 years of traditional arrow building experience, instructor Patrick Poole will guide you through the process of crafting one dozen premium cedar wood arrows.
Learn how to use the fletching jig to fletch your shafts, how to properly tapper both ends of your shafts, and how to properly install both nocks and tips. Learn how to prepare your shafts for dipping and some quick and easy dipping methods. Arrow materials and the pros and cons of each, as well as a little traditional archery history will be discussed in a non formal way around the work bench. These are wooden traditional arrows, suitable for hunting or field archery but with traditional bows only. They are not to be shot out of compound bows.
Please call ISU well ahead of time with the spine weight you would like to have ordered. Shafts come in a range generally from 40-65 # in 5# increments (40-45#, 50-55# and so on.) If you do not contact ISU with the spine and weight you would prefer, 50-55# shafts will be provided for the student. Nock and feather colors will be the same for each student depending on supply, and 5 1/2'' shield cut feathers will be used for fletching.
At the conclusion of this course you will have crafted 1 dozen premium cedar arrows and gained the techniques to successfully construct quality traditional arrows for years to come.
This will be a 4 week course consisting of approximately 12 hours of instruction from 6-9 pm 1 night each week. No staining or cresting will be done in this course but will be discussed.
