The Beginning Rock Climbing Workshop is an introduction to equipment, technique, and safety used in rock climbing. Tuesday evening class starts in the ISU Campus Recreation indoor climbing wall. The basics of knot tying and belaying will be covered and we will make plans for the upcoming weekend. Saturday travel by van to the City of Rocks, and spend the weekend rock climbing and camping. Participants will learn bouldering and top rope climbing techniques such as movement, spotting, knot tying, belaying a climber, rappelling, and anchor building.

You will be required to provide all the camping gear (tent, sleeping bag and pad) needed for your comfort. Gas camp stoves, large water jugs, and some cooking utensils will be provided. You will have to provide your own meals. Fees cover instruction, climbing equipment, transportation and camping fees.
