PLC Training is designed to provide instruction on how to successfully integrate a PLC into actual day-to-day industrial control processes. It not only deals with the hardware and software, but all the surrounding systems that must be compatible to achieve a safe and reliable control system.

The course provides students with instruction in:

  1. Ladder programming format
  2. Input and Output (I/O) configuration
  3. Wiring of external devices
  4. Programming of operating cycle
  5. Applications and programming of timers, counters, sequencers, and shift registers in process control systems
  6. Analog applications of inputs and outputs
  7. Use of math blocks for calculations
  8. Troubleshooting of PLC hardware and software problems

Upon completion the student, given a PLC will:

  1. Identify the controller(s), input/output rack(s), input/output module(s), and chassis power
  2. Demonstrate operational checks for operation of the  PLC per maintenance procedure
  3. Demonstrate proper of use diagnostic and test equipment
  4. Given a process specification, design I/O and write relay logic to comply with the performance specification
  5. Install relays and wire as prescribed to meet performance specifications
  6. Given a process specification, design I/O and write ladder logic to comply with the performance specification
  7. Document, I/O wiring, ladder logic and project information
  8. Utilize all required safety precautions

Laboratories will be conducted with industrial PLCs and typical input and output devices and packaged to support the specific educational and assessment goals of the course.
