How the West was Sung

When 19th-century settlers headed West, they sang songs about the land of milk and honey. By the time they arrived, they rewrote those songs to tell of rattlesnakes and alkali water. These songs are musical snapshots of life in the American West. Carving a home out of the “Great American Desert” was tough enough, but sticking it out year after year was the real test. Some songs and stories are serious, some are funny, and some are seriously funny, but they are definitely not Hollywood’s version of the West. This presentation is through the Idaho Humanities Council. Lunch with entertainment.
