This course will encompass a brief history of Dutch oven cooking, as well as information on the purchase and care of the Dutch oven.  Instructors will cover safety procedures and equipment use.  The majority of the course will involve experiential learning “hands on” cooking of entrees, breads, vegetables and desserts in the Dutch oven in an outdoor setting.  Students will work in groups, practice cooking techniques, and understand the importance of following a recipe.  Students will also learn the importance of heat management, and improvised wind screens.  The class meets outside regardless of the weather, so dress accordingly. Students will be required to provide the ingredients necessary to cook the assigned recipes, given on the first night of class.

All Dutch oven cooking equipment is included. (Ingredients for recipes not included.)
