The Boston Massacre--when five people were killed by British soldiers--occurred on March 5, 1770.  On May 4, 1970, National Guard troops fired on students at Kent State University, killing four.  The fact that these events occurred nearly exactly 200 years apart as well as similarities in their dynamics invites comparisons, which is the topic of this examination.
