Dying Languages

It is estimated that within the next 100 years, more than 90% of the languages currently spoken will have died out.  This class will look at the reasons for this unprecedented loss of living languages, what can be done to stop or reverse this trend, and what is actually being done by various language communities.  The class will focus on the languages of North American, Polynesia and Europe.
