The Bayeux Tapestry is second only in fame to the Shroud of Turin. The Shroud is not a 230 foot-long tapestry recounting one of the most important battles in the history of civilization. The tapestry was probably produced in England for the consecration of the cathedral in Bayeux in 1077. The Battle of the Grey Apple Tree, which we now simply call the Battle of Hastings, was the turning point in the history of England and, by English influence, the history of the entire world.
