Enjoy learning about “The Clay Cart,” a romantic comedy ascribed to Shudraka. This is one of the most appealing of ancient India’s Sanskrit plays, given its humorous representation of Brahmins, its briskly paced action, its tale of a political revolt that brings a commoner to the throne, its treatment of love in various dimensions, and its Shakespearean “all’s-well–that-ends-well” denouement. This play was performed by the Oregon Shakespeare festival in 2008.
